Marble needs a little extra care for cleaning and maintenance because it is susceptible to etching by any acids, leading to scratches, pitting, cracks, stains, and even dulling of the shine. Use a protective sheet or cutting board when dealing with acidic foods and drinks immediately like tomatoes, citrus fruits, sodas, coffee, wine, fruit juice, and even vinegar. Wipe up any spills immediately. And avoid placing hot pots and pans on the direct surface.
Clean with mild dish soap and water, and wipe gently with a damp cloth. Do not use regular cleaning products that contain vinegar, bleach, ammonia, lemon juice, orange, or other citrus foods. Never use abrasive cleaners that will damage and dull the finish. A baking soda poultice is a general solution for many stains.
Seal the countertops regularly with Stonetech Bulletproof®. Some people seal their counters every 6 months, though there are some types of marble that do not need a sealer. Contact us for more details.
